Zen Kitchen's executive chef Caroline Ishii has been avid about food ever since she was a child learning tradition Japanese cooking from her mother's side. Over the years Caroline has developed a strong belief in the concept of wellness and health with her studies in Yoga and Meditation.
Her passion for cooking inspired her into learning to heal with food by attending New York's famed Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts in New York. She then honed her skills as a chef specializing in creating meals with an emphasis on using local, organic whole foods.
Her desire to create health and a high quality food has lead to the Opening of Zen kitchen. Ottawa first and only Vegan gourmet restaurant located in the heart of Ottawa's Chinatown. From a very user friendly website to the extensive wine list, Zen kitchen exudes quality on many levels.
Boasting an all Vegan menu, items are put together using only local organic whole foods, supplied from the many farms and green houses in the Ottawa area.
For those of you whom are leery, Vegan does not translate to lack of taste. In fact the minute you try Zen's 'Home cut Ravioli" or my personal favorite "Mexican Chocolate Cake" you will instantly notice the clean and vibrant taste that is brought to the palate.
As well, the menu leaves little room for boredom as the items change according to what produce becomes available throughout the different seasons.
Finally, eating out in the Ottawa area no longer has to be a decision healthy or decadent. With Zen kitchen healthy and taste are seamlessly intertwined for a dining experience that should not be missed.
